Outlaw the Biker
Mark D. - Fresno 2010

I went to Avenal on Saturday May 1st, 2010.  I am a biker and was able to ride my bike into Yard 2.  While there, I met a biker inmate named Outlaw. He belonged to an outlaw MC in the Fresno area.  After the pintail small talk about bikes and other similar issues, we moved the topic of where his heart was with God.  He was hesitant to go into much detail, but the crux of the message was that he had given his heart to God long ago, but he was now very doubtful about Christ and His teachings.  If Satan is a liar, is Christ a liar too?  He asked that I explain to him the difference between the two entities.  Love-Hate, Truth-Lies, and Life-Death were some of the differences I showed him.  Outlaw told me many war stories about fights, stabbings and such that he had been involved with and survived.  He even admitted that he knew that the only reason he was still alive was because God had spared him.

That is where he stopped believing in choices and was convinced that all that happened to him was because of fate.  What was going to happen would happen no matter what he chose to do.  I asked him if he had any children.  He said that he has eleven Grandchildren.  I then asked him if his grandchildren were perfect or had there been times where he had to discipline them.  Outlaw told me that he had yelled at them to stop doing wrong.  I asked him if that had been traumatic enough to the kid to make them stop doing what they were doing wrong.  He said that it had.  "Was this fate?" I asked or were they just making a choice to see if he really meant what he had said.  Next I asked him if his correction had been fate or was it a loving Grandfather that was teaching them that every action has a consequence, some of which could really hurt them.  Outlaw stopped in his tracks knowing that it had not been fate.  This example had touched an important part of his life.  All told, we had spent the better part of an hour in a very heavy discussion about choices and accountability.  We then prayed for each other, his family, his role as a spiritual leader in his family, and the opportunity to share God's love with a troubled brother.  Outlaw has along way to go in his walk, but with the help of the study guide left with him, he will be able to stay a little more focused on listening to God's voice. I now pray that God work His miracles through this man to reach many more just like him.    AMEN
