| The Last 20 Minutes
Kris M. - Findlay, Ohio 2010
God was present at Allen CI last weekend!!! I was blessed to recieve an invitation from Dr. Mark Miller and his wife Diana to attend the Findlay event. Participating in this event has drastically affected my walk with Christ in such a positive way! Being blessed with the opportunity to share my testimony and faith with those who are so desperately seeking answers for their lives was much needed. It has increased my faith and spiritual maturity five fold!
The highlight of my weekend occurred during the last 20 minutes of the weekend. On Friday I had spoken with an inmate named William. William had seemed somewhat interested in learning more about Christ but was obviously reluctant to make a commitment to accept Christ as his Lord and Savior. Another inmate walked up toward the end of my conversation with William on Friday and I introduced the two. I told the other inmate that I wanted him to meet William and that William was a good man. Little did I know what a huge impact that statement would have on William! He was taken aback that I would call him a good guy, which was obvious by the proud look that spread across his face. I ended our conversation on Friday with an invitation to come out and hear the speakers on Saturday. After the last platform speaker finished on Saturday, I found William off by himself and we began to talk. Upon hearing that the institutional count was beginning and that the yard was being vacated, William began to cry. Large tears streamed down the cheeks of this "hardened" criminal and he found himself at a loss for words. William hesitated to say that he wanted to accept Christ into his life and I could tell by his tears and body language that the Holy Ghost was working on him. I told him that I would say a prayer of salvation and, if he wanted, he could repeat it after me. He did not repeat the prayer aloud, but I am hopeful that he made a commitment to God that will be a lasting covenant between him and our Savior. Either way, a seed has been planted and I am convinced that William's life will never be the same after the Weekend of Champions. I feel so unworthy for the opportunity to be included in such a mighty movement of God.
Thanks be to my Lord and Savior, Mark and Diana Miller, and all the teammates and staff of Bill Glass Champions For Life. I also want to mention that I met a gentleman named Richard who was a teammate this weekend. Richard took me under his wing the first day and really helped make my weekend a pleasurable experience. I feel like I went from a Freshman to a Senior in one weekend! If the Good Lord is willing, this won't be my last event. I hope to see you all on August 14 at LaGrange Prison in Louisville, KY. God Bless and keep spreading the gospel.
