Gene & Joe Beverly Ellerbee

In 1992, as a Senior Executive with Procter & Gamble, Gene began speaking for Bill Glass Ministries fund raising events, and going on “Weekend of Champions”. From those events he became very good friends with Bill Glass, Jack “Murf the Surf” Murphy and several other committed Christians, dedicated to Prison Ministry. Bill Glass asked him to retire (after more than 30 years) from P&G and become the President and CEO of the ministry. Gene spent the next seven years going in and out of prisons all across America, the Caribbean and parts of Mexico.  He witnessed, first hand, the mighty hand of God as the ministry and teammates led thousands of inmates to Faith in Jesus Christ! One of his fondest memories is of those wonderful men and women who faithfully gave of themselves, their time, and finances to spread The Gospel in prisons! Bill, Murf, Jim Lang, the office staff, the fabulous Board of Directors and the Godly women like Bonnie Lang, Donna Morris, Kitten Murphy, Tanya Crevier and Sandi Fatow will always hold a special place in Gene and Joe Beverly’s hearts. When the Lord called Gene into full time Christian ministry with CFL, Joe Beverly was delighted that it was in an area of ministry that she was sure it was Gene’s calling. What she didn’t know was that God was also calling her into that arena!  First as a Teammate and later a Coordinator in the women’s units, she remarked many times that many of those young and naive inmates could have very well been one of her own daughters!  This time was a true blessing-clearly changing her life forever! In addition to their five daughters, Gene & Joe Beverly have fifteen grandchildren and they hope each of them will have the experience of sharing Christ with prison inmates on a Weekend of Champions!
